Dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never get hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, Live like it's heaven on earth, And speak from the heart to be heard. ~ William W. Purkey

I had my 2nd English speaking class yesterday with Booya, and I've been thinking. Thinking about why these kids feel like they "can't speak English well".

There isn't actually much problem with the language. What I think they lack is confidence & the fact that they don't have enough general knowledge to hold a conversation. They definitely don't read for fun and are not inclined to find out more about something just for the heck of it. I'm also sure the Discovery Channel isn't high on their must watch list.

Now, I'm not sure how we are going to fix this situation, except to tell them to just read more. I guess newspapers would be a good start (to improve knowledge as well as language without scaring them off reading), although one of the girls said her hobby was playing Counter Strike & sleeping. Literally.

Now this worries me. It's probably a generation thing. Maybe I'm turing into my parents. Maybe I'm saying this cause I'm not a gamer. I'm worried cause these kids (and loads of other kids) don't seem to feel curious about the world around them. You tell them something interesting and they go "Erm, yeah". Then again, there are some of them who astound you with their wit & intelligence.

I think parents should push their kids to start life with reading. An ambitious thought coming from me though- someone who doesnt have kids :P

Not sure what Booya thinks of this though. Anyone have any opinions?

I actually skipped lunch today. Not a good idea, since skipping meals for me = a major headache. Yeah, I get headaches when I don't eat, probably due to low sugar levels in the blood stream (as explained by my sis). Boo! Work sucks!

Anyway, ripped a photo from a friend who works in NST of the Bantus gang doing a show for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia's "Celebrate Life" charity event at Bar Sa Vanh 2 Friday's back. Twas an artsy-farty night full of free drinks and delicious finger food.

Oh, mustn't forget the yellow rubber bands either ;)

Recent updates in Kotak's life:

1. Booya & I will be starting a class on Conversational English Class on Monday nights at Dan's Creative Kids Studio, a one-stop center for kids to learn English and have fun! We are starting with 4 teenagers and their mum and I hope everything goes well cause I've never actually taught a proper class before!

2. I've been making phone calls and sending out faxes non-stop for the past 2 days. Organising company events is difficult (and this isnt even a big event!)

3. I took my bro to get his back "rubbed" by the sinseh on Sunday. He's got giant diseased looking patches on his back now after being "cupped" XD My mum has demanded he take a mandatory 1 - 2 week rest from all heavy physical activity. His reaction? "Noooooooo...!!"

4. ZzzZzzZzZZZzzz....

After being notified by Booya, Kalamari and I had a great time trudging through the tons of books laid out for sale at the Times Bookshop Warehouse Sale last Sunday at Section 13. Got myself a book titled "To Hell with a Capital 'H'" telling on an epic story of Antarctic survival, by Katherine Lambert. An excellent buy at RM8 since I'm very much into reading autobiographies anyway. Got some Tom Clancy books for my dad and some literature by Chinese writers for my mum.

Best of all, I managed to buy the Spirited Away original DVD for RM79 (original price RM99). What an excellent anime! *grins*

All I have to do now is remember to NOT throw away my books receipt >.<
